Préma-Québec’s mission is to improve the quality of life for premature children by offering psychological and financial support to their parents.

We are the only organization in the province that comes to the aid of parents of premature children. Yet every year in Québec, 8% of births take place before term. Founded in 2003 by preemie parents, the association is supported by doctors, nurses, and others professionals working in neonatology.

Préma-Québec regularly holds discussion groups at six neonatal units in Quebec. It organizes annual training sessions for healthcare professionals, and holds activities to raise awareness about prematurity among the general public.

  • Support parents experiencing their children’s prematurity by fostering dialogue between medical care teams and families in order to facilitate the child’s treatment. Préma-Québec aims to bring together all players in Quebec’s medical community to advance the cause of premature children.
  • Inform parents and the broader public of the importance of taking prematurity into account in Quebec’s health services.
  • Provide parents with realistic, current and accessible information about the various aspects of neonatology, from the hospital stay to nursing, diseases and follow-up, as well as direct parents to competent institutions.
  • Offer case-by-case financial aid to families anywhere in the province who face considerable expenses if they wish to remain at the baby’s bedside during hospitalization.
  • Raise general public awareness of prematurity and the real needs of families during their child’s hospitalization, and encourage the population to invest in the cause of preemies and their families.
